Natuurlijk leefgebied
Deze vogel komt voor in verschillende habitats, zoals bossen, bosranden en savannes. Hij komt voor in de tropische regenwouden van Argentinië, de droge bossen van Bolivia, de Chaco (vlakte) in Paraguay en het Pantanal (overstromingssavanne), de cerrado (savanne) en de galerijbossen in Brazilië. Hij leeft tot op een hoogte van 600 m; in sommige regio's is hij zelfs waargenomen tot op 1 700 – 2 000 m.
