Natuurlijk leefgebied
Deze vogel komt voor in de vochtige bossen van de vlakten. Hij is ook te vinden in drogere en open gebieden, met name in beboste gebieden zoals de savannes, de llanos en de caatinga.
Over het algemeen leeft hij tot op een hoogte van 500 m. Hij is waargenomen tot op 1.000 – 1.500 m in Panama en tot op 1.400 m in Venezuela.
